Ludo 2006 till 04/02/2017

It is with great sadness that we have to report the death of our much loved dog Ludo on the 04/02/2017. He was a very special dog and his needy and unsecure nature made him unique. He was very much loved by us and everyone who met him and will be greatly missed. His health has been slowly deteriating over the last few years due to old age. But it suffered a rapid decline in the last few months due to cancer of the spleen.

In his last day he done his favorite tasks around the farm as normal all be it slow and was taken out and given all his favorite foods including cakes, donuts and KFC chicken. Late afternoon on the 4th Feb it was clear that the tumor had ruptured and that a significant bleed had started that could not be stopped. It was agreed with the vets that in his best interest and on welfare grounds, the kindest thing was to put him to sleep. The vets came to the farm as it was unfair to move him and he was put to sleep in his bed. A very sad day deeply felt by all that had cared for him.

He has been buried on the farm in his favorite spot under the tree overlooking the field where he spent many happy hours watching and playing with the horses. God rest his soul.

Ludo came to join us on the 14th November 2008 aged two. He is a harlequin Great Dane with loads of character and is very affectionate. His size allows him to get up to quite a bit of mischief. In his first month he pinched a warm loaf of bread of the bench and shared it with his two new mates (not a crumb was found). Ludo is afraid of the hovers so he tries to attack them, a practise which we are actively discouraging. He loves the space on the farm and covers the ground very quickly and with little effort. He has made good progress since joining us and the other dogs are helping with his training.

Ludo likes his new mate Breeze who he plays with quite a lot. They run around the field quite fast (does not pay to get in the way!). Both Danes loved the snow although we had to buy both of them a coat to keep them warm during the Winter cold snaps. One of the pictures below shows Ludo with his favourite teddy.

Both Danes loved playing in the snow that came in the Winter 2009-2010. Note the concentration on his face as he was running around in the picture below.
