Jane 1998 - 14/11/2009

It is with great sadness that we have to report the sudden death of our much loved dog Jane . She was a very special, intelligent and well balanced dog and she will be greatly missed. She has been slowing up over the last year but suffered a rapid decline in the last few months and was a frequent visitor to the vets.

She was being treated for arthritis and other complications. However late evening on the 12th November she was rushed to the vets in discomfort with abdominal swelling. After treatment to make her comfortable for the night, she attended the practise again in the morning and was transferred to a medical centre in Bury for checks. Unfortunately the tests confirmed the call out vets suspicion and a large primary cancer was found on the spleen along with secondary growths. Urgent surgery was scheduled for Monday the 16th November to remove the spleen and investigate the other detected growths. However she took a turn for the worst on Saturday the 14th and had a large haematoma forming on her abdomen. She was rushed to the medical centre. But given the internal bleeding, the serious risks involved in surgery and other existing complications, the vets advised that it was in her best interests to be put to sleep. The chance of successful surgery was in low single figures and even if we got a positive outcome she would only have six months at best before cancer took her from us.

She has been buried on the farm in her favourite spot in the back garden. God rest her soul.

Jane was adopted from the RSPCA centre in Southridge north London  back in September 2000. She enjoyed life on the farm taking every chance to get out and about when we are working around the farm. She enjoyed going out in the car to visit the seaside, relatives and go for walks. Jane enjoyed going on holiday with us and loved to run on the beach. She has been an excellent roll model, mentor and leader to Bentley and Ludo when they came to join us. Her loss affected both the boys.
